Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Waylight processes your camera feed entirely on your device. Images and video frames are never uploaded, recorded, saved, or transmitted to any server — including ours.
Overview
Waylight ("the App") is an iOS visual assistance app developed by the Waylight team ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what happens to data when you use Waylight.
Camera data
Waylight uses your device's camera to provide live scene description and alerting features. All camera frames are:
- Processed entirely on your iPhone using an on-device machine learning model.
- Never uploaded to the internet, our servers, or any third party.
- Never saved to disk, your photo library, or any persistent storage.
- Discarded immediately after each recognition cycle completes.
We do not have the technical ability to see, access, or reconstruct anything your camera captures while using Waylight.
What we store locally
Waylight stores the following data locally on your device only, using standard iOS storage (UserDefaults):
- Your recognition settings — selected scene, prompt text, frequency, and alert preferences.
- Custom scenes you create and save to "My scenes."
- Whether you have completed the app's onboarding walkthrough.
None of this data leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.
No accounts, no analytics, no third-party AI
Waylight does not require or offer account creation or sign-in. Waylight does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and does not send camera images or recognition results to any third-party AI or cloud service — all scene analysis runs on-device.
Subscription and network requests
Waylight Pro is an auto-renewable subscription processed through Apple's App Store (StoreKit). To verify and activate a subscription, the app sends your App Store transaction identifier and a randomly generated device identifier to our backend. We also send an anonymous, one-time ping when the app launches so we can count active devices in aggregate. These requests never include camera images, recognition results, or any other personal information, and are the only network requests the app makes.
Microphone
Waylight does not access your microphone. Any "crying" or "distress" detection features are based entirely on visual analysis of the camera image, not audio.
Text-to-speech
Spoken descriptions and alerts are generated using Apple's on-device text-to-speech system (AVSpeechSynthesizer). No text is sent off-device for speech synthesis.
Children's privacy
Waylight does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. Since Waylight has no account system, no data upload, and no analytics, no personal information is collected from any user regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
